  • Jyotisha is the Sanskrit word for Vedic Astrology which is spiritual knowledge deriving from ancient scriptures called The Vedas (of India).

Jyotisha roughly translates to “science of light” or “god of light” as Jyoti means light and Isha means god in Sanskrit. Other Vedic sciences more commonly known in the West are the practices of Yoga and Ayurvedic medicine.

There are many ways to consult Jyotish and it is a very vast subject however the overall purpose of using Jyotish is to gain guidance about who we are and the times we live in.

You can symbolically think of the stars as luminaries, setting light on a dark path, showing us the right direction to take in life. With Jyotish, we can raise our consciousness about who we truly are providing us with a profound tool for self-development and an opportunity to be on the path of reaching complete enlightenment.

  • A Birth Chart is a snapshot of the sky at the time of your birth that shows us what area of the sky (bhava) and what constellation (Rashi) each planet was in at the time.

A Jyotishi is analyzes a birth chart to explain the metaphysical (astrological) meaning behind the physical (astronomical) events that took place at the time of your birth.

  • While there are many differences between Eastern and Western astrology, the main difference is the zodiac position used to cast a given birth chart.

Jyotish is sometimes referred to as Sidereal Astrology because it denotes the use of the current ecliptic coordinates of the constellations for astrological analysis versus the historic coordinates used in Western Astrology.

Earth rotates on an axis that periodically tilts (known as the precession) and therefore changes the position of the constellations which Jyotish takes account of when casting a birth chart that Western astrology does not.

Solar Time is earths rotation around the Sun vs. Sidereal Time which earth’s rotation around its axis.

  • In order to deliver the best possible service and information, an accurate time of birth is required to receive any of the Jyotish services offered at Indigo Oracle.

The overwhelming majority of a Jyotish natal chart is based on the time of birth. Without an accurate time of birth, even a simple assessment of planetary placements in a natal chart, cannot be relied upon as completely accurate.

We will offer other divination services in the future that do not require time of birth so please periodically check this website for updates.
